avast icon near clock gone am i unprotected?

the spinning avast icon near the clock-lower right hand corner- is gone do i have a setting off??

Go to Startbar > Run, then type msconfig and press enter, can you see “Ashdisp” anywere under “Startup Item”?

http://freeweb.siol.net/razor256/downloads/avast_external_control.zip is an application that could help you bringing back the icon.
Other possibility:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

I had to uninstall and reinstall avast, but after running it again it appears that my system is clear. This is the log from hijackthis
