Avast icon not appearing in System Tray

Hi…I’ve noticed lately that my Avast Icon is no longer appearing in my system tray. I’ve tried a couple of Windows tasks to get it back, as well as making sure the “Show Avast Tray Icon” box is checked in Settings, but no success. Also as a result, I no longer hear the audible announcement every time Avast updates, so I’ve been doing the updates manually. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Thanks

  1. Check the option in the Appearance tab of settings > Ok. Already done.
    or
  2. Repair your avast installation through Control Panel.
    or
  3. Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder
    or
  4. Add the path to ashDisp.exe into a value named avast! in the Windows Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Are you by any startup item manager…? It could be deleting the avast startup entry… ::slight_smile:

Hi Tech…I already did no. 1…but I don’t quite follow you on 2,3,and 4. Could you elaborate further?

Thanks

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Right click the file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashdisp.exe
Choose ‘Create Shortcut’.
Move the shortcut to C:\Documents and Settings\ … … \Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Boot.

Well… let’s test the two ones first…
