Running Mac OS X 10.6.8, 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, and the avast! preferences option to “show avast! icon in menu bar” doesn’t do anything. checked or unchecked, the icon doesn’t display.
What version of avast! do you have? Are there any interresting entries in the system log (/var/log/system.log)?
Avast! version 7.0 (37264)
Not sure what qualifies as “interesting” in the system log, but i’ve attached a copy of it. Thanks for any help you can provide!
I also thought I had a problem with the icon not showing even though I specified it should be shown. Turns out I have too many icons for all of them to be displayed. Depending on the application you are running, there is only room for a certain number of icons. If the application does not have many “menulets” (such as Avast! with 3) there is more room to display icons than one with more “menulets” (such as Safari with 7). I can display 8 more icons when Avast! has the focus rather than Safari. Check out this link to learn a little more. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1195783 HTH
