avast icon with circle and red stripe

Frequently when I disable avast so I can install a new program and then reboot my computer, I get the avast icon with a red stripe in the circle with no running services. I then have to uninstall and re-install Avast for it to work again. I have probably done this 30 times.
I have no idea why this happens. It’s like I have corrupted an avast file when I stop the process’ from running and it will not run anymore. ???

There is no need to disable Avast when installing new applications.

You don’t have to uninstall/install. You can start Avast again in the on-access control panel.

If you have a problem, provide as much relevant details as possible.

  • What OS? (version, service packs etc)
  • What exact version of Avast?
  • What have you already done trying to solve it?
  • Do you get an error? If so which exact one?
  • Is there an error in Avast’s log file? If so which exact one?
    etc etc.

I thought the standard protocol was to stop all running applications when installing new software so the installation files will not be corrupted. Including any anti-virus programs.

Think about it. That means that every time you install a application you will leave your system totally unprotect.

Besides that, if the application you are installing contains malware, you will not notice it until after the install and you have activated the protection of your system again and actually are gonna use the application.

Makes sence, Thanks for the input.

What happens if you left click the ‘a’ blue icon and start the Standard Shield again?
Won’t it start?

Like Eddy said, could be not safe shutting down the antivirus while installing…
