Avast identifies a trojan (Win32: small-dmc) in pagefile.sys on a USB-connected drive.
I cannot take any of the possible actions because Avast then says it cannot process because there is not enough storage space on the disk. The pagefile.sys file is approximately 1.5gb and there is approximately 47gb available on that disk.
Have tried setting the registry to clear pagefile.sys upon reboot then rescanning but the trojan warning is still there.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
FOLLOW-UP: I think I figured it out and have taken care of the problem. Thanks for your consideration.
I tried enlarging the chest size but it still would not process.
After I changed the settings, Avast did allow me to delete the pagefile.sys. Because I was nervous, I chose the option to send it to the Recycle folder instead of a direct permanent deletion.
Since there was still an uninfected pagefile on the C drive and two would have been more than the recommended amount, I just let the F drive remain without one.
(Based on some other things that I read, probably a smarter move would be to have the remaining pagefile.sys on the F drive instead of the C drive, which I may go ahead and change.)
