Steam started to update today and avast is showing it as a virus

reported it as a false positive but wonder how long will take to fix?

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=102103.0

seems to happen once a week. ::slight_smile:

Yea, same problem here, vstdlib_s.dll in Steam folder being flagged.

why not keep all steam posts in same topic… they are now in almost every forum section

Same here.
Reported it alse a false positiv

Its the same with my computer, but the problem is the new Update of Avast. The vstdlib_s.dll wasnt updated by steam!!!

How do i report it as a false positive?
And when this matter will approximately be solved?

Thanks.

send the files to virus@avast.com with subject false positives…and wait until next few updates…

Pleas stick to 1 topic: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=101884.0

the easy way… if you have the file in chest is to right click and upload as false positive

anyway there are already 3-4-5 topics about this here…and many have already sendt the file(s)

And when this matter will approximately be solved?
usually quick....... you can be sure they are busy in the lab at this moment creating a fix

Reported as well.
But not the first time last two weeks that Avast blocks Steam games.

Here is how i fixed it, in Internet Security.
Real-Time Shield, File System Shield, Expert Settings, Exclusions, Add Your Steam Directory to the list.
Had a problem with Fallout 3 last week and now Steam Update. Works with the Exclusion.

With this issue.

  1. move your cursor over the yellow avast symbol bottom right hand side.
  2. Left click it
  3. Go to AVAST! Shield Controls
  4. Disable for 10minutes
  5. Try updating steam now.
  6. Once update has finished , do the same to re-enable AVAST.

(if it doesnt work, go into your virus chest on avast, and right click on the file vstdlib_s.dll file, and click restore)

Thanks Avo.

Hello,
it should be fixed now.

Milos

It’s not fixed for me, updated avast and it’s doing the same thing, moving vstdlib_s.dll to chest, reporting it as a threat. Funny thing is, trying to restore it from the Virus Chest does absolutely nothing, in fact none of the commands work.

EDIT: Never mind on the Virus Chest commands, quick restart of the program fixed it. Still reporting Steam though…

same here, iv excluded the steam folder (leaves me vonrible) future steam attack?, ti tell averything to ask me what to do…

but every time it detects a file is poss inf, it still does not give me the option to ignore it… just the 3 options / delete/move etc…

And yet again Avast flags a critical part of Steam as malware, this time FileSystem_Steam.dll.

Seriously Avast, this needs to stop right. I can understand false positives from time to time, but this is getting ridiculous, sort it out!

if you have the file in chest…right click and upload as false positive…
it will then be uploaded at next update…or at once if you do a manaul update

After Steam going through automatic client update process, Avast (120804-1 and 120805-0) detects FileSystem_Steam.dll as a Win32:Malware-gen.

You may want to (temporarily) exclude the specific file or the Steam folder from being checked for malware.
Go to: File System Shield >> Expert Settings >> Exclusions >> Add the specific file or the whole Steam folder

Now if you start Steam it will copy the file (FileSystem_Steam.dll) back. Alternatively you can restore it from the Avast chest (saves a small download).

Of course you do not want to exclude it forever.
