Avast in Ubuntu to scan NTSF volumes

Hi,

New to the forum. I have a dual boot Ubuntu and XP. I am trying to use Avast to scan the NTFS partition. Do I first have to mount the NTFS partition or will Avast do that? If so, can someone point me to simple instructions for that? I’ve seen and tried many sets of instructions, but they either don’t work or I’m missing something on doing the mount. All help would be greatly appreciated!

I think the NTFS partition should be mounted first. Maybe Ubuntu does this automatically…

The mounted partitions could be at folder \mnt\

Yes, the partition must be mounted before, avast doesn’t do this. There are more distinct ways how to make NTFS readable (old kernel ro/file-rw driver, newer FUSEd ntfs-3g driver…), so it’s up on the (super)user.

Mandriva can write and read NTSF partitions by default.

Ubuntu does too. Just remember to shut down Windows normally because Ubuntu won’t mount a hibernated Windows partition.
