avast in Win 8.1

I had Avast 2014 free on my system and decided to upgrade to avast 2014 pro. After installing the license file and doing the upgrade/reboot, my system was on the verge of crashing just after boot-
Locked up almost everything and somehow uninstalled the drivers to my Netgear WDNA3100 adapter, had one heck of a time uninstalling avast because the system was incredibly slow, and wrestled with the adapter prob . for about 15 min, until I figured out what had happened! I have an I-5 3570k with 16 gigs ram , an Intel SSD and NVidia graphics, also im using win 8.1 64 bit. I know win 8.1 is the buggiest and most unstable version of windows right now so I`m not totally blaming avast, but this is irritating, any help would be greatly appreciated (also the free version ran superb before I upgraded…and im now back to using it for the time being) Thanks in advance!!!

I can’t speak to your issue with the Avast Pro edition, as I’m running the free version on Windows 8.1, but as far as I can see Windows 8.1 itself is pretty stable.

What do you need from Pro that the free version doesn’t provide?
