Is it safe for me to edit Avast4.ini while Avast is running?
Or should I shut down Avast completely before doing so?

I believe that you can do it when it’s running… but some of the changes will take effect after restart.
(The changes regarding the Mail Protection should take effect immediatelly, I think).

Just want to make sure that Avast don’t overwrite the edited settings with the one stored in memory during shutdown.
