Hi i am new here and i am sorry if i missed a thread with this tried 2 find in search engine but no such luck.
Anyway i was using Microsoft Essentials and then i switched 2 Avast free and there wasn’t any problems but since i uninstalled Essentials i started 2 get red flag and msg that Avast isn’t turned on i tried 2 troubleshot the problem in program section and when i tried 2 enter avast location it said it was an invalid path and i used a path that was in Avast properties anyway if some1 has encountered this problem plz tell me how 2 fix it.
PS: and before some reboots i got a Windows defender msg/warrning as well but since i done the scan it doesn’t show any more
Any time a user removes an antivirus or security suite program from their computer, more work needs to be done to remove all left-over-remnants from their system before installing the new antivirus or security suite of choice.
Reason for this is that you can have problems such as you describe above, as the new can see and conflict with the left-over parts of the old a/v program and vise versa.
Using Add/Remove or Programs and Features is not sufficient to remove everything so that the new can install cleanly and without errors.
It will help if you choose to provide information about your operating system, and service packs, if any, as well. If you can provide the version of Avast!, if it is free or a paid antivirus or suite, that will help as well.
To completely remove Avast! use this specialised removal tool: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utilityif doing a repair of Avast! does not work after running your singularlab removal tools. You must place the aswclear.exe program on your desktop (move it from the downloads folder) and run it only in safe mode as administrator. You must also ensure you are only removing Avast! and no other folders not involved with Avast!
Important: Reboot after running the vendor specialised tool to finalize removal of all left-over files. If you do not reboot, these files may not be removed until you do so.
You can also use this website (edit: singularlabs) to clean and remove any other a/v’s you have ever had installed in the past.
EDIT: Also suggest not putting this system online until you have full antivirus protection.
