??? When I install avast the resident protection will not load.Any help appreciated. Windows XP Home SP2.

avast! version
any details of previously installed/currently installed anti-virus solution other than avast! … of course!
any error messages etc.

Its the Free Avast Home Edition.I had a previous install of McAfee but deleted all from Registry and Windows.No error messages just says Resident Protection not enabled and I cannot seem to enable it.Perhaps Windows Firewall?

Have you already rebooted?
Have you tried a repair of Avast?
Waht happens if you try to start it manually?

Eddy, Ive rebooted,done a repair,tried manually to start it,even uninstalled and redownloaded it.Got me beat.Had no problem with Windows 2000 when I had it.

Anything in Avast’s log file?

I will shut down windows firewall and try it.

Try this:

  • remove Avast using the uninstall util
  • reboot
  • install Avast
  • reboot

Worked this time Eddy.Maybe twas the firewall.Thanks for the help :slight_smile:
