Avast installing Chrome behind my back

Hi.
I have a problem that Avast keeps on installing Chrome behind my back when It updates its engine. How can I make it stop. I do not want Chrome at all. I’m a 3 licence Full package owner. Not free users. On free users I can understand it, but not for me who paid for Avast. If I wanted Chrome I’d install it myself.

When it installs it asks you for permission to install it. You should’ve unchecked it.

This is a known issue and happens without rhyme or reason.
This should be corrected with v2014 upon final release.
May I suggest you just uninstall Chrome and/or update to the latest release 8.0.1497

Just so you know you are not the first to report this.

That isn’t always the case. Especially when updating from within the program.

It doesnt ask. If it did I wouldn’t ask. It doesn’t ask on either Win8 or Win7, but asked on WinXP. And yes I update from withing Avast.

Maybe you should install new versions over your existing version in the future.
I have noticed several other software companies are trying to sneak chrome on to peoples computers and its quite alarming to be honest.

It may not be nice but certainly not alarming. If this were the Ask Toolbar, than I’d agree with you.

I still have v8 on all my W7 machines…waiting for V9/2014 to be more stable.
I plan to use the V8 GUI to do the upgrade.
Are you saying this upgrade will install Chrome or Ask Tool Bar behind my back ?

The answer is NO
AND you posted in a thread over 60 days old. ???

Thx for the answer…and I did so because this question came up in 2014 thread and thought it appropriate to go to a topic thread instead of highjacking that thread with a non-critical item. To be honest, can’t win with you guys…no matter where something is posted the “post police” complain. After all, what is the issue with posting to a 60-day old thread…or older…topic if the question is relevant ? ???

I would say that posting in an older topic may relate to an older version of avast and as such the conditions may be different.

This topic when created was about the avast 8 installer, the avast 9 installer was meant to resolve this I believe.

Did you not see this screen after the install and reboot ?
