avast interfering with mail connection

My ISP does not use SSL or TLS, yet avast keeps insisting on changing its setting to either SSL or TLS which causes a connection failure. I have to go into avasts user interface and change the setting to none or delete the account then download the E-mail. It only works for one download after which I have to do it again. This means instead of having my e-mail downloaded automatically every 30 minutes I have to download it all at once when I get home from work. This takes a lot of time I really don’t have. What do I have to do to make the program retain the settings I give it?

untick the automatic account detection at the bottom of the same window where the ssl accounts are in the mail scanner settings, this should do the job,and just delete the accounts already detected.

Tried that, no effect.
What’s really strange about this is it started a couple of weeks after I installed the paid for version, not right away, and never had a problem with the free version.

not easy to help as my mail provider requires ssl anyway, so I can’t check the scanner behavior if it wouldn’t. There might be a bug, you’re not the only one who reported that.

None of my email accounts require SSL and avast was able to set them up correctly in the Mail Shield, Expert settings, SSL Accounts, see image, these are my settings, note that the Encryption option is set to none.

Is yours the same, if not adjust it to None and see if that works.

Why it should work to start with and then not is a mystery.

That’s what I keep having to do to download, but it wont stay at none, it keeps resetting itself back to either SSL or TLS.

Are you using an account with administrator privileges as I don’t know if a limited user account would do that.

Yes it’s a home computer, the limited accounts are for the kids and visitors. My wife and I both have full admin privileges and both have the same problem.

I’ve even turned e-mail scanning off in avast without any effect. It’s happening with both Thunderbird and Eudora.

I’m running out of ideas, since avast5 hasn’t been out that long so I haven’t seen much of this on the forums and have no personal experience of it.

What is your ISP ?
Perhaps there is something going on behind the scenes.

ISP is Blue zone. I have called them and all they could tell me is they don’t use SSL or TLS. I don’t have enough time to really check much right now, working 12 hour shifts only have two hours between getting home and bed time. Overtime ends this Friday so I may have time after that to play with things. if I can’t figure it out this weekend I’ll send a ticket to tech support. If they can’t fix it I’ll uninstall and go back to the free edition.

Thanks

You’re welcome, until then.

Post some screen shots

Sorry I haven’t the slightest idea how.

Any way when I got home from work today I changed the setting to none again checked my e-mail and then while going through it all another auto check happened. So I looked at the settings in avast and low and behold it held. So it broke itself and fixed itself. As long as it works!
