I have a P4 computer with win xp SP3 operating system and an Nvidia 210 graphics card.
I download driver updates from nvidia site.
Recently everytime I have downloaded the setup file it has shown up as corrupt, if it doesnt show up as corrupt, it doesn’t extract, if it extracts successfully the setup stops halfway showing CRC error.
however after disabling the avast shields I am getting positive results where I used to get errors. i.e. I downloaded the update file (multiple times) successfully.
the setup file extracted successfully and the installation process went off without any problems
I have since tried to download/install nvidia updates with and without avast shields, the results are the same. without avast shield the whole process goes off without a hitch.
why is this happening?
what does this mean?
Does the problem originate with nVidia or Avast?
Please reply.
Hi just to explain Video drivers. You have a old card a gt 210 there have not been any updates for that card in along time. When you go to download the Nvidia drivers there is a link to click that says release notes if you look in there it will tell you what problems and cards that driver covers if it does not do anything for your card. And none of the new drivers will show any fixes for your card I would stop updating it.
I believe that maybe Web Shield is the culprit.
I also have problems with corrupted Nvidia installers, but only if I use “normal” downloader in Pale Moon/Firefox.
If I use DownThemAll! add-on (downloader),everything is fine.
Hi yes @ craigb did you look at the release notes if you had you would see there is nothing in those drivers to help a GT 210. And also Nvidia is soon going to stop making any new drivers compatible with older cards. And really you have to look at the Card a GT 210 most Intel chipset graphics are faster than it nothing you can do will help that card. I will just say also when you see a new bios for your motherboard read the release notes if it has no fixes for your system why take the chance on updating it. In other words Read the Release Notes before you update.
Just because there is no specific upgrade for the 210 card does not mean that there has been no improvement in the driver itself which can still be beneficial, as you can see that card is still supported by the latest driver and if the drivers still support that card then it is always recommended to upgrade.
This getting off topic so back to the real issue here which is the OP’s problem between avast and NVidia.
Hi no craigb it is not always recommended to update. If it works and no problems leave it alone this is of course after 25 years in the pc business. And yes if the release notes do not mention any fixes for the card there is nothing in the new drivers to help it. But you seem determined to not understand cards and motherboard’s can be bricked by a bad update carry on. It does mean there is no improvement. Anyway my point here was not to get into a discussion with you over this it was to let the user know there is no need to update that card. I do not update my cards for every driver release only if there is a fix I am having a problem with.
Hammey new drivers aren’t just for the card, think outside of the box as new drivers give better compatibility with many other software’s as well, such as accelerated browsing in modern browsers - without the latest drivers this and many other features or compatibilities with newer software are unsupported.
