Avast Internet Security: 2014 version causes loss of internet connection!

Hi All… Avast update last week of Version 2014 provokes loss of internet connectivity on my wife’s computer. We’ve recovered the connectivity via restore points several times, but repeated re-installs have done the same. I tried the installation recommended here, on the Avast Forum website announcing the release that recommended: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe - and did the setup and download, but same results; no internet connectivity. In all cases, installation of 2014 version failed AND we lost connectivity, afterwards which (to repeat above info) recovered connectivity via system restore. So, as a last resort, finally, UNINSTALLED Avast, in an attempt to reinstall - but, again, loss of internet connection. We tried updating via UI, but same results. So, that’s the originating problem…

So, now, I’ve tried setting up the connection (various times), but our router isn’t listed. When we try setting it up manually, it says it is “recognized” (implying it, to me, is simply a matter of connecting to the list given) - but it’s not on the list of available routers. Hmph…! :stuck_out_tongue:

What’s going on? Why has the uninstallation caused loss of connectivity? Can anybody help? Seems like a simple problem. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.
You neglected to tell us which version of avast you’re using:
Free, Pro, IS, etc
Which firewall are you using ???

Check the title of the topic Bob

Sorry, my oversight.
If you don’t use the Firewall portion of IS, does that give you internet access ???

HewPackard CW1130ES - Processor AMDE-450 APU w/Radeon HD, 1.65GHz - OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - Avast Free AV: Version 2014.9.0.2011, Virus database; 131229-0, No.of.definitions: 2.6+million

Well, that’s what we’ve got, above - hope that helps… And we somehow surprisingly did get online after a reboot, and now have the Free Version which is working fine. So we’ve stumbled into success without knowing why. We’ll let the free version “settle in” for a few days before updating with my paid subscription. Hope that works - but the original problem remains of: Why was there a cut in the connectivity after upgrading to the 2014 version? (We had been using Internet Security version.) Somebody above asked about firewalls… The computer is running Windows Firewall and is set at the “recommended” settings. Come to think of it, several times it asked to turn the Avast firewall on, but I went to it, but was unable to… Any other ideas what may be going on?

Hm…maybe a clean install will do!

  1. Download the avast uninstall utility here:
    http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

  2. Download the avast internet security here:
    http://www.avast.com/download-thank-you.php?product=ISE&locale=en-ww

  3. Uninstall the avast present in your system using the ‘avast uninstall utility’ (The one in step 2) via Safe Mode

  4. Reboot your computer

  5. Finally run the avast Internet Security installer ;D

I hope it works
