Avast Internet Security 8 Blocking VPN (Ignores Application Rule)

Hello, my Avast internet security 8 seems to be blocking my university VPN even though I have the rule set to allow “All connections”. So far, I have been working with Avast firewall disabled in order to use the VPN, but I was wondering if there is a more permanent solution?

I have systematically shut off shields and have found the mail shield on mine to be blocking my internet connection!

do you have a firewall with outbund protection?
