Hello guys, since the last two days none from the company took the time to answer my ticket, I’m gonna ask you. The last few days (after a format) I see my CPU running at 30% all the time, it only goes down if I close Avast. It’s not scanning anything, and there seems to be no problem with the processor or any other hardware. Adies anyone?
- Which version of AIS…?
- OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
- Other security related software installed…?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
- Version 11.2.2261
- Windows 7 ultimate x64
- None
- 5 years ago when I made the PC I used MSE but I changed a few months after to Avast and never changed it again.
First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!
Then:
- Download Avast Internet Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
- Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
- Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
- Reboot.
The hard disk was totally clean, there are no remnants of anything. This started after the format I did a few days ago. The moment avast was installed my CPU run at 30% with nothing running but avast.
I downloaded the AIS and installed it after the format as I always did. There is nothing wrong with the hardware as far as I know since everything runs smoothly if I unistall it. I formated the PC 2 times since the first time this happened i thought I did something wrong. As long as avast is not installed or is not running everything works as they should.
Edit: I format my PC every year and the last few months I bought a new hard drive and cloned the old one on it. A few months later I formated it since I was experiencing some problems with my OS. Then this problem started.
Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB33#artTitle
Well, I sent a ticket and 2 days later I haven’t received any answer at all. I will wait for another day or so and if the problem is not solved by then, bye bye avast!!
Once you submit a ticket it doesn’t get replied by Avast that fast. It takes time usually 5-7 working days. There’s a que of tickets. Tickets are are solved first come first serve basis. Post your ticket number in your next reply and I will report your ticket number to the admin and one of the avast team member will help you assist with your concern(s).

Thanks!
… same problem here folks. Avast is hogging resources.
After the latest update to Avast Internet Security version 11.2.2261 my old trusty Tosh started running HOT (fan keeps weezing non stop) and and SLOW. [Specs: Windows 7 Pro. 32bit, SP1, on a Toshiba Satellite A200 laptop with Intel Core 2 T5300 @ 1.73 GHz CPU with 3 GB Ram and a 250 GB OCZ SSD hard drive.]
Checked task manager for resource usage, I found file [avastsvc.exe] hogging more than 50% of CPU resources like a black hole.
Tried repairing the programme to no avail, tried uninstall (and then CPU ran miraculously like a cool breeze for a while) and reinstalled, …but same thing again.
I am thinking now of terminating my long time reliance on Avast and looking for something lighter and cooler if THEY don’t come up with some FIX soon. This is getting rather tiresome.
I filed a report yesterday [ticket #286338] but no reply as yet.
I’ll be monitoring this page for any news (hopefully)…
I just made a smart scan and while it was running the CPU usage went down for a while. Now I am going to perform a full scan to see if this will solve the issue. While performing a fast scan the CPU usage from 30% went up to 50% and again down on 30% and back on 50%-80%. I will post again when I do the full scan of my computer.
… an % increase in CPU resources use during scan activity is very normal.
What is NOT NORMAL is a constant DRAIN of more than half of CPU resources when idle.
This is like the definition of a BUG or sloppy programming in my dictionary!!
Please let us know when and if anybody form Avast wiil deign to reply to your ticket (I’ll let you know if do have some answer myself)
@Michael851: Thanks for posting your support ticket. I am reported it to the moderators and one member from avast will assist you. Again, submitting a ticket to avast you won’t get a reply from them so fast. It takes around 5-7 working days. Tickets are handled first come first serve basis.
After running a full scan nothing changed. It’s been 3 days since I created the ticket and I will wait for another 24 hours, if I haven’t received any answer AND a solution by then, that will be the end of Avast for me. I will go to BitDefender free which has way better stats from Avast anyway.
… Thank You very much for your assistance!
Avast is gone, I installed AVG and my CPU now is running at 3% with Chrome running too. I will clone the disk to a secondary drive and give it a test against malwares etc.
… I just installed a 30 day trial BitDefender Internet Security package, which looks a lot simpler and leaner than Avast.
Checked resources use and found less than 5% of CPU are used when idle!!..
I’ll keep it for the 30 days trial, waiting for a fix from Avast IT to this problem, otherwise,
… it’s good bye from me too!!
You think that BitDefender is better? It had almost the same stats with AVG. Let me know of your opinion once you have tested it.
After a lockalized scan with AVG free it found more threats than Avast does in my files (files that I trust and are mostly keygens and cracks for some programms I use and of course I add in the exceptions).
