Windows 8.1 Action Centre continuously reports that 2 issues require solving:
Update Virus Protection
Update Spyware Protection
Yet Avast Internet Security reports the it is up to date.
If I select ‘Yes I want to run this…’, nothing appears to happen.
This issue also occurs with Avast Free.
Is this a known issue or an install/run configuration error??
There are experts here who can help you resolve the issue, but I will say this: What you describe is not a fundamental problem with the product. There are those of us (myself included) who run it just fine on Windows 8.1. I only mention this so that you know it’s a problem that can be resolved.

Try a repair via Programs and Features - click to uninstall avast then choose Repair on the following screen, when completed reboot.
No need just disable the avast shields for a short while and then restart them
Just to confirm that Avast AV is working just fine and updating etc. etc. - but I want to get rid of the alerts from Action Centre.
I will try the ‘repair’ suggestion.
I have already tried the ‘disable shields - then restart them’ option - to no avail.
Yes, and I’ll reconfirm that it can run just fine without the Action Center emitting such notifications. Keep at it. Maybe it’ll take a full uninstall/reinstall, but it can be made to work.

just so you know… if you google this, you will see that this is not a avast only problem. You find the same problem asked in several other AV vendors forums
