Hi all

I have Avast Internet Security running anti-spam on Outlook 2007.

The Avast group of icons recently disappeared from the menu bar at the top, the icons showed ‘blacklist’, ‘whitelist’ and ‘spam’.

I noticed it disappeared after I installed Acrobat, there is now an Acrobat group of icon.

Any help on restoring the Avast icons?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

I’ve tried these steps and still no fix. Are there any other suggestions?

I suggest an installation from scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. Or even upgrade your key from old versions.
  7. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.

Hi Tech. Thanks for the quick reply. I’ve now again followed all steps, I did everything in Safe Mode.

Still cannot get the icons back in Outlook.

Try to delete (or copy&move) “extend.dat” file: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=155.msg651#msg651
The extend.dat file is in a hidden folder, so if you’re Explorer to do the search, you need to explicitly enable searching of hidden/system files…

OK I’ve also tried that now. Still nothing :cry:

One thing I just thought of that might be the cause of this problem. I installed Acrobat, this then added ‘PDF Maker 10.0’ icons to the Outlook menu bar. It was after this the Avast icons disappeared.

Would this be a likely cause? I don’t know why it would be?

It looks like Outlook is trying to place the Avast icons but cannot. Look at 1. When Outlook loads, it has a space where I used to have the Avast icons. Then after a while the space disappears, look at 2.

The space is not a problem as the icons could be added to a separate toolbar.
I’m empty.
I need help from avast team…

I had the same problem in the beta version if you still have beta version you should update Avast Beta to Avast 6.0.1091.I already have Avast 6.0.1091 you can try this:

-Completely close Outlook
-Use search function of Windows to find all the files called “extend.dat”. Delete them
-Add/Remove Programs-Avast control panel and select Repair (restart your coumputer)

Did all the steps outlined but afraid those steps didn’t work either.

There’s gotta be a resolution.

Yep, deleted it as per steps you outlined.
