I have to say that right now, I’m frustrated enough to just uninstall Avast, and never use it again.
I purchased a license for the Internet security version a few days ago and installed Avast. Now, it is blocking sites which belong to me, and I know they are clean, plus www.drupal.com and yahoo.com. I go to the Firewall expert settings, and add these sites as friends, and avast still blocks them. I temporarily stop the Firewall, and Avast still blocks the sites. Then arbitrarily it seems to suddenly unblock them, and then blocks them again; and during all these, I am on the same network.
I have set Avast to ask me if it is going to block a site, and there is no warning. Only in the logs, I can see that avast is blocking these sites.
I register with at the Avast support site, and login; I try to submit a ticket, and it tells me that I don’t have permission to submit a ticket; and in the emails that I received when I purchased a license, there was no mention of how to submit a ticket, except by phone.
I was trying to evaluate avast and see if we should switch to Avast; but if this is what I’m going to get, then may be I should just forget it and go back to McAfee.
Perhaps you could have post the logs as to why they were blocked ?
Have you made any changes to the firewall settings, that might adversely impact on unrelated sites (use of wildcards to exclude/block sites) ?
I can’t be any practical help as I’m not using AIS but many are, so hopefully one of them can pick up on this.
If Avast is working for you as an antivirus, please update the definitions if not already done and run a Quick scan. If any infections come up, place them in the Virus Chest and give us a screen shot of what is in there in your next post.
Next, regardless if Avast is/is not working, download and run MBAM (Malwarebytes):
· Download freehttp://www.malwarebytes.org/ (the blue button) for an on-demand scanner.
· Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
· After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
· Under Settings:
o General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o Scanner Settings: Check all boxes
o Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
· Once the program has loaded, select “Perform FULL Scan”, then click Scan.
· The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
· When the disinfection scan is complete, a log will appear in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note).
· Click the “remove selected” button to quarantine anything found. You will find the infection details under the Quarantine tab.
· The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
· Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Also, in your next post, please let us know the following:
What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including:
Antivirus (AV)
Firewall (FW)
Trial versions of AV, FW and other security programs
Other security software
If they were in the past, how did you remove them (the vendor’s uninstaller’s tool or another way)?
Oh, yes, it’s a conspiracy. I’m in cahoot with CIA and FBI; just out to post very interesting!!! posts with nameless sites. If you don’t have anything constructive to add, you don’t need to post any replies; didn’t that occur to you?
Ok, here are some more information. I’ve attached 2 screencaptures of Avast’s log and ‘Friends List’ so that you can see that what is being blocked is in the list of friends. I’ve put red squares around the IP address (72.167.232.13 which corresponds to one of my own sites, http://2000onlinegames.com/). Basically, depending on which Wifi I’m using, Avast arbitrarily chooses to block this site or not. Then I change Avast’s setting for that network to designate the network as a lower risk network; but Avast doesn’t accept it right away; after sometimes, suddenly the site is accessible.
By the way, it is Avast that is blocking since as soon as I uninstall Avast, everything starts to work and there is no blocking. Also, I read on some post that Avast’s alert are not displayed if I’m using an application in full screen; is this correct? This would be very odd to me.
Well, based on the overwhelming support from Avast support team, and community, I’ve tried hard and found a great solution. Uninstall Avast and forget about it. Obviously Avast is not ready for the primetime. If you can’t get support for a product you pay for, and on top of that the virus scanner cuts you off from not only your own web sites, but also sites like Yahoo and Drupal, and you can’t even tell it not to block those sites, then forget it. Time is too precious to be spent on installing and reinstalling software.
You will get a quicker response here on the forum but you gave no details to your problem in your post. Please describe your problem in detail so that we can help you. Thank you.
@ rezaim,
I attempted to assist you, however you never followed through with the problem-solving and answering questions that I posted on 4/6/11. No one asked you to do an uninstall/reinstall. It is understandable to be frustrated, but we are attempting to work with you to resolve your problem and will continue to assist you.
the thing is, that it is a nonspecific problem.
Today at 6 pm everything was fine but when I turned on my computer later, around 10 pm, I couldn’t even get to my google homepage. Firefox and ie8 cannot connect and say that the connection was reset and try again later. I briefly see the page and then it resets.
I use avast5 free and when I turned off the real-time webshield, everything works fine. without doing that, I couldn’t even post to this thread as the page reset itself.
I did not change anything between the visits to the computer but apparently avast updated itself when I turned the computer on again.
A friend of mine has the same exact problem - everything was fine in the morning but later some pages are not accessible.
please help! wouldn’t want to change programs or keep the web-shield off.
