Avast Internet Security Blocks My Router

Hi

I’m aware that my problem may well have been covered numerous times in the past but I’ve been unable to find anything which is relevant to the current version. Hence the following query.

I’ve been running the trial version of Internet Security for the last several weeks but today I tried accessing my Router setup and I couldn’t get to it. After searching for a while it became obvious it was something to do with the Firewall. However, whatever I searched for in the Avast forum I could not find a sensible answer to my problem. As a result I reverted back to Avast Anti-Virus Free which DOES allow me access to the Router. In the meantime I shall try to get some answers to this problem. I should add that just disabling IS did no good whatsoever - I still couldn’t get to my Router. In my searching I came across several threads (of about 12 -15 months old) which claimed this had been sorted out but from my experience - no it has not!!!

My question therefore is: does anyone have any idea, bearing in mind it is now August 2018, how I may overcome this problem if I were to reinstall IS back onto my PC? I should also add that between uninstalling IS and re-installing Anti-Virus Free I tried with five browsers to get to my Router and I was able to do exactly that with each (Opera, Firefox, Chrome, Edge and Internet Explorer). So it has to be something to do with the Firewall in IS – unless anyone has any other ideas what else it may be?

What OS are you running ???
If you’re using Windows 7 or above, try disabling the firewall component in Avast IS.
You’ll still be protected by the Windows firewall.

Hi

As you may expect three years after the release of Windows 10. I am now fully Windows 10 only running UEFI system (as opposed to MBA).

Could be Avast firewall is expecting default settings, see: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=220801.msg1470441#msg1470441

Scroll down to reply # 7. (Note: resetting your DSL modem also resets hardware firewall and admin name and admin password to default settings. Be sure you have access to the modem before you do this, which you’ve already done.)

Make and model of your modem will help us help you.

Hi

Sorry I’m not responding as quickly as I would like.

I shall give that go sometime during the coming week and see what happens. In the meantime my Router is a Netgear WNR3500L
