Avast Internet Security crashed during a full scan

I’m on day 1 of the 30 day trial. Started a full scan. It got to 16%, which took a couple of hours, then crashed.

What support does a potential customer get in this situation?

  • Which version of AIS…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Version: 19.2.2364 (build 19.2.4186.436)
Windows 8.1 Pro x64
No other security software installed.
These AVs were previously installed, but were uninstalled prior to installing Avast:
Kaspersky
McAfee
Bitdefender
AVG

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Internet Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

That seems to have fixed it. I successfully did a Full and a Boot-Time scan.
