Avast Internet Security Frozen and Can't Uninstall

Hello:

I have an ASUS T100 10.1-Inch Detachable Laptop with Windows 8.1 and Intel Atom CPU Z3775. I purchased Avast Internet Security (version 10.0.2208 purchased in January), and also have Office 365.

The computer boots and works normally except for internet connection. I can connect to WIFI but cannot connect to the web using either Chrome or IE. Both browsers say “establishing secure connection” in lower left corner, but then say “this webpage is not available”.

I cannot open Avast. I cannot use the task manager to stop any Avast processes. I cannot Uninstall Avast (I get an error that “setup is already running”). I cannot update Avast.

So now the computer I bought principally for internet use cannot be used to access the internet. How do I repair or at least uninstall Avast? Any help would be appreciated!!

  1. Download Avast Internet Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

I’ve downloaded the files, but need an adapter to transfer to the Asus. I’ll let you know how it goes.
