Avast! Internet security Hogging memory and processor on windows 7 64 bit.

Hello!
I installed Avast Internet security on three almost identical Hp laptops and after restart noticed that the systems were using almost 100% of the processor and on each system Ram usage was going gradually up towards maximum. This led to computers being unresponsive and unable to run programs such as uninstal. Looking at task manager i noticed that the used resources were not in use by avast aplication, rather by windows own processes, but clearly avast was to blame.
After uninstalling Avast in safe mode the resource usage on the computers went back to normal. I previously had norton installed but that was removed via their own removal tool.

Operating system is WINDOWS 7 64 BIT HOME PREMIUM.
Laptops are Hp G72 and G62.´
Please ask for aditional info and i will provide, i just dont know what would be relevant. Thanks in advance.

Have you removed any previous installed virus programs ? HP computers usually comes with Symantec/Norton installed
Have you run a removal tool for the program to clean any leftovers?
you can find a removaltool here http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/

Yes, like i said i have run norton removal tool to remove previous AV before i installed avast!. Should these tools be run in safe mode ?

not that i know, but it wont hurt trying i guess

i am running AIS on a Lenovo netbook ( see my signatur) and does not notice that it is there, but that is on XP/32bit

must be something wrong with your setup. Try to find out what “crap” HP has installed on your system that could conflict with Avast. I’m running AIS on W7/64 as well and I don’t have such issue.

jepp, you may try running Decrapifier http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,67264-order,1-page,1/description.html
http://www.google.no/search?client=opera&rls=nb&q=decrapifier&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

and a cleanup with CCleaner http://www.piriform.com/ ( OBS remember to not install the yahoo toolbar if you don`t want it )
