I upgraded my Avast! Pro Antivirus to Internet Security today and shortly after I was unable to connect to any websites on Google Chrome or Firefox. Is this a recurring issue with anyone else and is there a known fix for it? I have not come across anyone else who has this problem after Google searching for solutions for the past 3 hours. My browser was able to connect after uninstalling Avast! and restarting my computer.
Hi ,
Please try the following troubleshooting steps
Resolution: Include the Proxy server settings for Internet Explorer when using broadband and/or local area network (LAN) Internet connection
- Start Internet Explorer.
- Select Tools → Internet Options… from the main menu.
- Switch to page Connections.
- Click on the LAN Settings… button.
- Check the option Use a proxy server for your LAN.
- Write localhost into the Address field (alternatively, you can enter IP address 127.0.0.1, which is the same as localhost).
- Enter 12080 into the Port field.
- Confirm with OK button.
Have a wonderful day. Good k@rma!
Hello and thank you for the response. I just tried to re-install Avast Pro Antivirus instead of Internet Security and it cut off my internet connection again. So I tried your solution and it did not work. As of now I have no antivirus only my standard windows firewall.
What was your previous firewall?
Since you don’t have Avast currently installed, you may try the removal utility for Avast so to remove any possible remnants http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility.
Sorry for the late response. My computer came with Kaspersky but I uninstalled that. I’ve tested it several times and the results are always the same: I install Avast and my browsers can’t connect to the internet, but I can still go on Skype and play games. As soon as I uninstall Avast, my browser is instantly able to access websites. I have no malware or trojans.
Hi,
Since you mentioned that you had Kaspersky in the computer, even if you uninstall it, there will be some leftovers for Kaspersky in the computer. So we need to make sure that Kaspersky is been completely removed from the computer. You can download it from the following link.
http://thewebatom.net/uninstallers/security-software/
and select the removal tool for Kaspersky and run it. Once done make sure that you reboot the machine.
Make sure that you remove avast! too using its removal tool. You can download it from
http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe
Reboot again. Now download the latest avast! software from avast! website and install it.
Try to browze the internet. Hope the issue will be fixed by now.
It worked! I guess there were some Kaspersky files still lingering around after I uninstalled it. Thank you for your time and help! ;D
We are happy to know that the issue is fixed… and you are welcome. Have a great day ahead.
