Avast Internet Security not updating virus definitions

For two weeks my Avast IS has been alerting me that my virus definitions are out of date. I hit the “Update” button, the screen changes to UPDATE–Step 1 of 3 initializing please wait and the gray bar. Then it does nothing. Please advise. Running Windows 10, Avast IS 18.5.2342 build18.5.3931.338. Virus definitions 180802-2.

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

Virus update requires an internet connection to work, unless you are using this site for non-internet machines: https://www.avast.com/download-update.
