Avast Internet Security Version 7, Slowing down my internet HELP

Hi. Ever since I bought and installed Avast my PC has been slowing down considerably. Both in performance and internet surfing. I have 50mbit download and 5mbit upload but when I run a speed test it’s around 5mbit download and 1mbit upload and I already contacted my ISP and they say everything is fine on their end.

So please, anyone with a bit of knowledge could help me out?

Are you running through a wireless connection? If so, you may be getting interference from other networks near you. Try changing the channel your router uses and see what happens. I have found that channel 9 works well because not many people use that one. The most common ones are 1,6,and 11.

I don’t use wireless, I’m connected via cable. I’ve just noticed that everything has been slow ever since Avast and I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

I’m using Internet Security 7, I have windows 7 ultimate 64bit, No other security programs installed, i turned off windows firewall. I didn’t use any AV before.

Which version…??

program version: 7.0.1474

Is this a new machine…??
If so, there could be an AV preinstalled. Please check.

My pc is fairly new and the reason why I didn’t have any AV program installed was because it usually interferes with what I’m doing. But decided to get Avast to scan my pc and didn’t find any viruses or anything which is the only good thing Avast has done for me for now.

  1. Download avast! Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
