I must say I am thoroughly disappointed in AVAST’s handling of the version 7 freezing issues which is clearly widespread. I’ve searched throught he various suggestions on this board and nothing works. My newly purchased Avast Internet Security 7 is causing computer freezing on startup, and at times shortly after startup. Now BEFORE YOU BLAME MY PC and put the blame on the customer’s system, note the following:
I was using Avast free version for a year with no problems (actually why I gladly purchased the pay version). It was great. If the free version worked, the pay version should work with no problems on the SAME PC. That is the bottom line.
I did a system restore in safe mode. Uninstalled avast. Tried running for a while without AVAST and NO freezing problems. I tried running several programs at once, forcing a freeze, still no freezing.
Thinking my problems were solved, I reinstalled the LATEST version of AVAST Internet Security 7. Put in my license. Restarted. AGAIN NOW I HAD FREEZING issues.
Here is how I want AVAST to resolve this.
Immediately E-mail to your paid customers the download links to the OLD (good) version.
Find a universal fix.
Notify by E-mail to all of your paid customers that you have resolved the problem.
Here is how I DO NOT want AVAST to resolve this.
Make customers search around the internet, wasting their time looking for non-existing problems on their computer. This is clearly a common AVAST 7 problem. Accept that it’s YOU, not US.
I will be waiting for your prompt response. If this issue is not resolved, this will be my last payment cycle with AVAST and I will make certain to NOT recommend avast to anyone.
SYSTEM INFO (shouldn’t matter since free version was working fine but you will ask anyway)
DELL Precision T3400
Win7 Ultimate
Office2010
Removed avast in safemode using asw clear. No freezing problems. Reinstalled latest verion, then freezing.
BTW…Look, I was happy with avast for a long time. I can also understand people wanting to be defensive. But I love how people dismiss it as our pc’s problem, yet noone can explain why the previous version was fine and new verion is having problems. Guess what? That means the new version is not up to par!
My hope is that avast handles this in the right way. And that their supporters expect avast to handle this the right way.
They could start by giving us back the old versions.
(links to old versions I found still gave me ver 7)
Nope. Not downloading any version of Avast until this gets resolved (BY SOMEONE FROM AVAST). I have uninstalled avast again. Running MSE. Guess what? No freezing issues.
BTW: I actually paid for Avast because of how well the free (or old) version worked. PAID customer here.
Also for those who dismiss this as “haha problem on your end” (not you Junin, I’m referring to another thread): Avast gained popularity because the free version ran light and worked well. This serious and widespread problem will certainly lead to losing customers. Go ahead and ignore your paid customers and see what happens to its popularity. Conversely, handle this problem responsibly, and again the popularity will increase. Avast’s choice as a manufacturer.
Hi,
MSE was already installed before uninstalling avast? MSE must be uninstalled, it’s known that create trouble with avast.
It is known that two anti-virus on the same computer can cause problems
Because you don’t have Avast! anymore. We cant help you troubleshoot a problem that does not exist anymore.
And no one “from avast” will be able to do much with the scarce info you have given. “Freezing at startup, didn’t happen with ver.6” is about as vague as you can get.
While I’m sure Avast! will miss you as a customer, since you already said goodbye and wont install till someone fixes a problem that cant be diagnosed…well, its just a dead-end from where i am sitting.
Since your problem is with AIS and not free did you ever happen to have a third party firewall that is maybe still installed or remnants left behind, is there any other security software installed on the system ?
I just purchased the internet security upgrade ,it would not download directly so i had the avast online store do the insertion, but now my computer has been rendered pretty much usless due to freezing, what happened to avast, have they just become another scammer, ive used the free version for years with little or no problem, now they wont even respond from the tech support do i have to phone the otherside of the world to talk to someone. How can i fix this problem,i am a newbie as far as IT is concerned but to be totally ingnored by avast is really starting to get me PO is there an easy fix other than getting my money back, and writing avast off as a new piece of sh… company, just after $ and not giving a crap about their products,i`m using windows xp 32 with 2 gigs of memory.can anybody recommend a fix that a computer moron like myself can do to get this p.o.s. working again
Im hearing you with this… ive researched, looked at forums and see a common issue here… I was at the brink of throwing out my laptop, reformatting it… just so bloody annoying that it was taking 5 - 10 min to boot up, complete lock up, complete frustration… I tried everything… and then lo and behold I uninstall avast and whammo, its running perfectly again… Ive been in I.T for 20 years, I know what Im doing, ive looked through all the suggested fixes reccomended and still concur that there is a serious issue at the Avast end… so acknowlege it and fix the #%$#@%$ problem!
