AVAST IS 2015 - Firewall will not start

Running version 2015.10.0.2208 and firewall will not start. Running Windows 7 Home Premium OS.

If I click on the yellow desktop widget icon, I get the error “The following components could not be started: Firewall”

If I try to turn on the firewall through the Avast GUI, I get the error “Unable to start Firewall!”

If I attempt to start the avast! firewall service the computer management GUI, I get the error: “The avast! Firewall service on local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.”

I’ve looked through my windows logs and can find no error messages.

Windows defender is disabled. Windows firewall is disabled.

Long time Avast user, and everything was working fine until the new 2015 version installed.

At a loss of what to do next…

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

So after multiple reboots and being very frustrated yesterday…

I installed latest windows updates before shutting down for the night. Just booted up this morning and firewall is working…
