Avast is always scanning in the background.

Whenever I have the file system shield enabled, the Avast icon indicates that it is always scanning. Although according to the realtime data page there isn’t any activity. I’ve tried re-installing, and adding exceptions for the main programs I use.

What OS/SP?
What exact version of avast?
What browser?
What add-ons do you have installed?

I have Windows 7 64-bit, SP1.
Avast 2015.10.0.2206.
Google Chrome.
Disconnect.

Let’s see if we can find something:

@ Drarrhat Meade

What happened after your other topic https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=157567.0 when you reported this problem was gone ?

I followed the link, Malwarebytes and Farbar didn’t see anything but aswMBR crashed when it reached CryptSvc (I tried to run it twice). I attached the results of the Farbar scan anyways in case you want to look at it.

@David, it stopped working a few days later, I’m not sure why. I did install Bad Company 2 and WinCDEmu (virtual CD emulator) recently, so I’ll remove them and see if that makes a difference.

No apparent malware or conflicts

Are you playing games during this activity

I uninstalled BC2, WinCDEmu, WinPcap, and Physx, and Avast started working again. I don’t think they caused the problem though because I reinstalled them and Avast still works. If it stops working again in a few days I’ll say something. Thanks for your help.

(By the way, I checked the realtime data when Avast was scanning and it didn’t show any shield activity for some reason.)

…aaaand it’s back. It happened right after I took out a DVD. More weird problems are that my USB ports had reduced power and the volume icon went missing in the notification area, both problems gone after a restart. I’m about to give up on security and download MSE.

EDIT: It isn’t caused by games, it’s scanning the entire time my computer is on.
