Avast is Blocking Gtc.edu (Gateway schools) website

Anybody else having this issue?! Have to turn off “https “ scanning in the web shield for it to work. …?

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.

Three is little information to work with. is it an Avast Alert or an error message from the site

Create a screenshot on your computer and save it locally. Using windows explorer or other file management program, drag and drop into your post. As I have below.

Is this the site you are trying to connect to ?

But when i disable HTTPS scanning in web shield it loads fine.

and here is what it lkooks like when HTTPS scanning is disabled under webshield settings

this site still loads fine on chrome on another computer in the house even with webshield on.

Sorry but to me that doesn’t make sense, when you have already said

What browser/s is it being blocked on as if it works on chrome then ?

Obviously my image isn’t going to the same page you posted, presumably you have to log on to get to that point, which I can’t do ?

Under The Web Guard settings try only disabling the Enable QUIC/HTTPS3 option rather than killing HTTPS. Which leads me to my next question, The Web Shield is now called the Web Guard under the Scam Guardian settings.

What Avast Program and version number are you using (my Program and version number are in my details below my posts) ?

Yes, I made a typo. I meant in the second post here is what it looks like when webshield is ENABLED (not disabled).

i got thrown off because my post was initially refused because it said new members can only include one image per post so i had to re-write it and wait 3 minutes to be allowed to post another message.

the blocked message comes when logged out, actually. i will try what you have posted later and get back to you. it’s not my computer. my application is called Avast One, so perhaps I’ve posted in the wrong forum.

Whilst Avast One is a different Avast program (which I don’t use), they have different components and configurability.

My image is from Avast Antivirus Free, so may differ in both the location it can be found and settings.

The Avast One range differs slightly components and configurability - there is a sub-forum for Avast One for Windows. I don’t know if you would find any similar topics there or not but for now I would stick here where most of your information is,

“Under The Web Guard settings try only disabling the Enable QUIC/HTTPS3 option rather than killing HTTPS. “

Unfortunately this didn’t work either. Very, very odd! Thank you for trying to help us figure this out.

You’re welcome, as another check you could try adding the URL to the Exceptions area of Avast One settings.

As I don’t use Avast One I’m unfamiliar with its settings but in my version of Avast Antivirus it is in the Menu > Settings > General > Exceptions.

Example of an exception from your image (.)gtc(.)ox(.)ac(.)uk(/) The * symbol is a wildcard for one or more characters. Strip out the (bracket) characters, they are only there to prevent the url from being active in the forum.

EDIT for some reason the forum software isn’t displaying it as it is also used for emphasis but it should be before the first period and / characters.

Believe it or not i’d already done that and it still didn’t work! crazy, I know…

Unfortunately that’s all I can come up with not experiencing the problem, using the link in my image, which was just a random shot at the main site based on a google search. Not knowing and likely not to have permission to access the area you are experiencing an issue with.

The URL example I gave was the one i visited just to indicate how the wildcards * single or multiple characters.

So I googled Gateway Technical College and that just gave https(://)www(.)gtc(.)edu(/) I only got there after jumping through some hoops. But even then There appeared to be blanks in the page display, only when I lowered my uMatrix and uBlock origin, did I get the same image as you.

I did crop it somewhat to show those items and keep the size down.
However it did have a Spanish Icon bottom layer of the page and I’m not running a VPN.

All of this on Firefox and the Web Shield and HTTPS enabled.

Well thank you for your attempts. I’m not logged in or anything, that’s the page I would want to see. Here is what I see on my other computer that also has Avast and Chrome, which makes it even weirder.

worth mentioning: mine also has the Spanish language button on the bottom (its outside of my screenshot tho)

Even stranger now, are there any differences in the two, I’m thinking this might be a possible cause.
I’ve never been a fan of the Chrome browser (or chromium based browsers), I would be looking for differences in the two systems and chrome installations (build number and OS).

I would clear the browser cache, check the settings or add-ons, try temporarily disabling the Add-ons on the troublesome system and see if that makes any difference.
