On the wifes laptop, The red warning kept popping up and actually filled the virus chest! It seems to have developed the warning and subsequent blocking of the firefox 3.6 browser, every time it tried to access the internet.
I looked in task manager, and saw that there were 3 mozilla apps running, and everytime I would try to end the program, another one would take it’s place and try to start and the warning would pop up all over again.
This would have gone on for ever it seemed!
I had to shut down the laptop, and start in safe mode to delete the browser from programs.
Then I ran a boot-scan where Avast found over 100 instances of the Win32:“malware”-gen.
I then ran a regular scan and another 14 instances/files were found.
The file names include C:Program Files.…\trz1685.tmp - 2688.tmp-trzDAA.tmp ect. and so on.
I tried to download and install the latest Firefox 7 browser, thinking that would solve the problem
but no dice. Avast blocks it all over again.
I tried 2 Malwarebytes complete scans and it found nothing.
Internet Explorer works fine though!
So Is the problem with Avast free edition, or does the laptop have a stubborn malware virus???
The infected unit is a Toshiba laptop.
BTW…I have the exact same Avast program, and Firefox 3.6 browser on my desktop with no problems whatsoever.
My next step was to remove Avast, and do a re-install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks -JC
Just wondering, have you scanned using MalwareBytes?

If FF won’t let you download try using IE or Google Chrome.
My bad! :-[
@ stangit479 you might try the viruses and worms forum. ???
