AVAST is causing Problems

I’ve been using Avast for years with no problems until now. When I do a internet speed test online my upload needle fly’s all over the place. From 2mbs to 5 mbs to 10mbs. Up and down. When I turn AVAST off I have no problems. My speed test works with no problems. I have used three different online internet speed test. Can YOU help?

No probelm with my connection!

Are you using cable as speed is limited by the number of the same users on your connection. ::slight_smile:

I am using cable, However soon as I disable AVAST everything works GREAT. I’m trying a few things now. Going to reinstall my browser (Firefox). Just trying this and that. But so far no good.

Do you have any other security software installed?
Did you upgrade from 4.8 to version 5? And what version are you currently running?
What AV was in use prior to Avast, and how long ago?

Same as Bob and the Others-no problem

So are we just showing off, here, or are we going to try and help the OP with his issue?

Targ57, it’s a simple case of mine is bigger than yours. I thank you for your concern in this matter. I’m still as a loss about this. I’ve been running this on this machine for 2 years with no problem. One day everything was fine, the next POOF. I’ve run Spy-ware you name it, I’VE done it. So I’m still open for subjection’s.

Cable Speed Considerations

Did you know your cable speed will vary depending on the usage pattern of your neighbors? Cable modem services share bandwidth among subscribers in a locality. The same cable line connects to many households. If many of your neighbors access the Internet simulataneously, it is a distinct possibility that cable speeds for you (and them) will decrease significantly during those times.

Customer Satisfaction (advantage - DSL): Even if a technology is popular, customers may be unhappy with it whether due to cost, reliability or other factors. Indeed, in the U.S. cable services generally rate lower than DSL in customer surveys.

You have not indicated your ISP.

maddogf250, could you please advise re my questions above at #8? And what spyware scanner did you use?

One of my thoughts (along with YoKennys thoughts, it seems) was fluctuating cable speed - I experience that quite a lot, but this seems to happen only when Avast is installed, based on a couple of tests, so maybe it is Avast, rather than the vagaries of the ISP provider.

In the absence of software conflictions, and malware on the computer, it’s possible a full removal, using the uninstall utility, and re-install will solve it. But it’s advisable to check for conflictions etc first.
