Avast is down.... You are unprotected...

Avast is essentially dead on my computer now. This has been happening off and on for a few days now. Now I am down hard… I have only been using this for a couple of weeks now. Not very happy. If there isn’t a simple fix, I am going to ask for a refund…

Greg

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Avast Internet Security
17.8.2318
Win7 Pro 64bit
No other security software
Kaspersky before

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Internet Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Performed all of your suggested steps. Now, it won’t accept my activation code and if I try to insert the license file you sent it crashes… Patience running thin… Pretty buggy software… Anything else you can recommend?

Follow instructions: https://support.avast.com/article/33/

I followed your instructions, submitted a ticket and a day later I still have not heard anything. So, I will be requesting a refund. Very disappointed…

My problem is very similar to Greg’s.
I have been using Avast product for a long time. I have a paid premier subscription on a laptop and using a free version on the desktop. Wanted to enhance the security on the desktop and discovered that I could protect another device with the current Premier subscription. Had the download emailed to me and set to installing it on the desktop. No mention of uninstalling any other Avast products, “Thank you for choosing Avast for Windows. Just download and run the installation.
DOWNLOAD”
So, I discover that you have to uninstall. So I did, both version, free and shared. Did the download again and the dropout problem continues. Patience is running thin as I have at least 12 accumulated hours into this problem and am seriously considering returning the desktop back to McAfee.
