Avast is no longer asking when a Program update is available

I noticed that since I upgraded to Avast Free 7.0.1466 it has never alerted me that a new program is available. I happened to come to the site and see that versions 7.0.1473 and 7.0.1474 have been released. I manually updated through the GUI today on one computer. None of my computers are alerting me when a new Program is available since October 12, the date I upgraded to 7.0.1466.

My settings for Program update are “ask when an update is available”.

This isn’t a big deal but Avast has always alerted me in the past.

Thank you.

Sincerely, Libra

Same for me on two units.

.

Sounds like a bug has crept in.
At one time I would have noticed it myself but since v.6 I routinely set the ‘Program’ setting to ‘Manual Update’.
I have some users still very calmly and comfortably running AIS 7.0.1426. 8)

Well 7.0.1474 was only released on the 31 October 2012, with over 170million+ users; even with hundreds of update servers, they all can’t get the upload together. Program updates are usually over a seven day update cycle to balance server load.

So it may be no more than you haven’t hit the cycle yet, personally I never wait as when it is available I manually update. Obviously that requires monitoring of the forums for notifications, etc.

yes, DavidR is right. Once we start to offer the update to our userbase then we have to balance the load. Anyway, at the end everybody should receive the update offer.

Thank you all for your replies. I did realize that version 7.0.1474 was only released a few days ago, but since I was also never notified regarding version 7.0.1473 I decided to ask here.

It’s fine with or without the notice and it’s running well.

Sincerely, Libra

My understanding is that there was a release after 1466 and before this latest, correct? Well, I have received no notifications on two of my units asking, as has happened in the past, that I update. I checked my settings and I am quite sure my settings aren’t any different than they have been for however long I’ve been using that UI, which is probably since they were introduced. I think the UI has been changed since I first starting using Avast. I actually hadn’t noticed that red font until I was trying to get that Facebook popup to reappear and that was a few weeks ago. Gotta say I was a tad surprised to see that red font because in the past this company’s software has been quite persistent in pushing me to update, and that’s good. I tend to wait a few days or so and check the forum to see if any really weird problems manifest in a new version before I update, so I’m quite used to being pestered every time the virus definition is updated and the program version is an older one, because in the past that’s when the popup would show stating to get off the fence and update. Of course, not that language. Anyway, there’s been none of that. Not sure the significance of that situation, but you tech folks might like/ought to know, yes?

I’m happy to say I noticed yesterday that one computer gave the Avast update notice.

I have just completed updating another computer manually through the UI and am running a quick scan. The install seems to have gone well.

I’m not really familiar with what the WebRep does but I have gone into IE and see that it is listed as “installed” in the managed add-ons, but if I do a search using bing or startpage I don’t see anything to indicate good or bad links. So I uninstalled it.
