I have bittorrent and I look at the P2P shield and it says no files have been scanned. Is it still scanning? What is wrong?
Strange… mine is working for eMule.
Are you downloading through Bittorrent right now?
Do you have the box beside bittorrent checked?
Yes I’m downloading through bittorrent and I have the box checked off next to Bittorrent.
Anyone know how to fix this?
I’ve noticed this too as my brother’s computer with avast! continually got viruses in his downloads section even with avast! on, and I believe I know the culprit after a bit of browsing and checking the typical areas that are usually the cause for continual infections. Your problem may be because uTorrent is not checked by default in the P2P shield if you’re using that, although I do find that minor detail slightly odd since checking it will automatically change your settings to the label of “Custom” instead of the usual “High” settings label which should usually be the setting that has everything enabled.
It’s not really a big problem, but I can’t say it doesn’t bother me to see my settings viewed as the vague term “Custom” rather than the satisfying option of “High”. I suppose that’s just me, but I do like knowing that with the high settings enabled, all of the crucial things are being closely monitored. Perhaps this minor modification could be scheduled sometime in the near future? ???
Custom is any state that has some personal configuration that is not the default (for Normal or High). It’s not vague… it’s custom.
For Standard Shield, the best balance between performance and protection is Normal level.
I guess you’re right Tech, but I’m just a bit picky with wording ;). I also am aware that the Normal settings are alright for covering everything, it’s just that I’d expect on the higher level of protection to have all of the essentials (such as the programs listed in the P2P section) to be checked already. Really I’m just hoping that this option will be checked by default sometime in the future to prevent this kind of confusion from happening, although if there’s a legitimate reason for leaving it unchecked, it’s fine by me.
Ok Solemn. Nice avatar… makes we think about life…
When I had Utorrent installed it scanned but then I switched to Bittorrent when I did a reinstall of Windows and wasn’t able to do the router settings for Utorrent.
Is the P2P scanner still protecting me???
Wow never noticed that uTorrent is unchecked, perhaps it may cause problems with the way uTorrent downloads things and give false alarms.
I don’t really know If Avast! waits for the whole file to be downloaded or scans it piece by piece when being downloaded.
Re: utorrent … the unchecking is very deliberate. Please see: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=33964.msg284042#msg284042
Thanx alanrf!
When it did scan it did it piece by piece.
