I’ve upgraded my Avast twice in these few months I’ve used Windows 10, and both times I’ve tried to do the same thing I did with Windows 7 when upgrading Avast, that is letting it upgrade just before turning my computer off for the night, and Avast has upgraded itself whenever I’ve rebooted it in the morning. However in Windows 10 when I’ve turned my PC off from Start menu, Avast doesn’t seem to finish the upgrade, since when I’ve turned my PC on after the night, Avast hasn’t upgraded and is still showing a notification that my PC needs to be rebooted. Is this an intentional thing or some sort of flaw in Avast’s and 10’s compatibility etc.? :-\
Are you using the “fast boot” option in W10 ?
Are you truly shutting down the system or are you using sleep-/hibernation ?
I always simply go to Start menu and click “Shut down”. I’m not sure what method in 10 is the default for that, but my PC displays “Shutting down” screen whenever I do it.
Do you get the screen from avast that tells a reboot is needed for the changes to take effect ?
You need to use the Reboot option within Avast in order for the changes in the Update to take effect.
Even Windows 10 after an update gives a special reboot or shutdown option that finishes the installation of the Windows update.
That is just some weak programming. The A/V kernel is already in place, a shutdown/power on is just as effective as a restart as far as Windows is concerned.
It would not surprise me if just bouncing the Avast service would accomplish what is needed to bring the new kernel/engine online.
