Today when starting a VM with Avast Free 25.12 installed, immediately on booting to the desktop this popup appeared front and center. I have Avast in Silent Mode. No popups or notifications of any kind should appear. Especially a fake one that isn’t even an actual alert!
WTF is this?? Avast is actively going against their own promises. “Enjoy the quiet while we silence notifications on this computer”, and then this bullshit scaremongering upsell crap!
It’s bad enough that Avast Free users have to suffer certain prods and pokes. Fair enough. But when you promise to keep quiet, you have to actually keep quiet. This undermines trust in Avast, which is not what you want from an AV. Seriously!
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
You might want to change your settings.
Also check the AvastUI > Menu > Settings > General - Notifications, I would suggest using the Pop-up Notifications treatment - Limited Mode.
As it specifically mentions Pop-Up offers. Where Silent mode doesn’t mention this and it would also stop alerts and messages, something which you might want.
I have been using Limited Mode for some considerable time.
David, maybe look at who you’re replying to before posting a standard response
The quote above: “Enjoy the quiet while we silence notifications on this computer” is literally the message in the Notifications screen when Silent Mode is enabled. There should be exactly none. Of any kind. Limited Mode allows more notifications than Silent Mode, and I have explicitly chosen Silent Mode in this VM. Limited Mode is a subset of Silent Mode, and allows for actual alerts, which I also want suppressed in this VM. So no; Limited Mode is not wanted here.
Avast is straight up ignoring its own promises. I want an explanation from an Avast Team Member why that is.
Indeed you do not seem to understand. By your logic Silent Mode itself should not exist. Which is false. I see use for it, and so does Avast because it provides the option. The point is: it should work as promised, but it doesn’t.
Don’t you worry about failed connections. That’s my problem and I’m fully aware what might be the cause and how to fix it. Even if it might confound you.
Did you even try to read this whole topic.
All I have been doing it suggesting a way to get rid of the Notifications, by changing your settings.
I’m not justifying the notifications, just trying to help other Avast users not trying to justify Avasts trying to sell you more products.
The simple answer would be if you don’t like them and you don’t want to follow the advice in how to reduce them, just uninstall and find another Antivirus. That simple.
Nothing gets rid of them. Avast also claims the security situation of my computer is “CRITICAL” and redlined ! They are gutter Liars ! I happen to be a security consultant….oooops. Massive LIES ! My computer is pristine as far as threats. You may want to find a more legit cause to provide support for…
