We avast evangelists of course all know this, but again it was confirmed in a French security test.

Participants is the test were Avast, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG en Panda Cloud. The test consisted of recognizing malicious webstes with drive-by-downloads exploits, infested codecs or Fake av scanners. Also malware files were tested during various periods of time. Security Essentials had the lowest score here. For removal of malware avast scored near 100 %. That is why the expert advised to use layered protection - avast as resident solution and a couple of non-resident scanners like for instance MBAM, SAS. With rootkit detection as another test, the overall result was avast scored gold,
silver went to Avira and Microsoft Security Essentials, and Panda and AVG got bronze,
