Hey, I’m buying a new laptop and it’s coming with windows 7 Home Premium, I want ultimate on it because of personal reasons, but I can live with home premium, the thing is what antivirus should I choose? it’s either avast internet security on my windows 7 ultimate or Microsoft security essentials on my legitimate Home Premium? the reason I can’t install MSE on ultimate because I need a genuine version of it and the activation key just doesn’t work, so what should I do? yes I know AIS is a paid AV and MSE is free but buying AIS doesn’t bother me at all, paying for a new license key for ultimate though on the other hand does.
You will find no recommendation to use pirated widows on this forum. That is a dead-end street.
Why would you not use AIS on Home premium? Works fine for me.
I would like a new VW Golf ‘R’ instead of the standard model, but if I just take one from the dealer’s yard, I can’t get any support from the manufacturer. Crazy Eh?
I’m not really sure which of your “questions” you would like to be answered! ;D
AIS works really well for me on Windows 7 Home Premium 32 & 64bit(currently no boot-time scan). MSE probably does too but AIS has so many extra features.
Anyway, a little of MSE’s effectiveness will remain because the non-real-time components of Windows Defender will still be there alongside AIS.

What is genuine Microsoft software and why is it important?http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/faq.aspxQ:How do I know if my Windows software is genuine?
A:Microsoft offers an online validation process that allows you to verify that your copy of Windows is genuine. You will be prompted to validate your copy of Windows if you request a genuine Windows download from the Microsoft Download Center. Alternatively, you can validate your copy of Windows by going to the Genuine Microsoft Software homepage and clicking “Validate Windows”. The validation process is easy to use, only takes a few moments to run, and once completed, allows you to access genuine Windows downloads more quickly in the future.
You do not need MSE with avast! but Windows Defender runs fine on my Windows 7 system.
@ pepe2: avoiding posting such non-sense in the future might be a good option, you want Ultimate >>> BUY IT :
There actually are issues with MSE not recognizing valid Windows installations as genuine. There is something you have to turn on in Windows to fix that but at the moment, I can’t remember what it is. A Google search should find the information.
The question here isn’t about a genuine copy but one that’s been cracked. The fix you’re taking about doesn’t apply here. :o
