Avast Issues

  1. since the last program up date whenever i open Mozilla it goes to the Avast config page. I have selected the settings i want and clicked save multiple time but this never seems to get rid of this issue. I have the latest version of Mozilla and Avast.

  2. Also Ever since i reformatted in January i always get “some files could not be scanned” when doing any scan. these are two Nvida files

Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication that they are infected or suspicious.

Do you clear your browsing history and cookies when you close your browser ?

Hi, I should have been more clear; i know they are clean but i dont want these results to alwasy come up every time i scan

Yes i clear private data every tiem Mozzila closes. I forgot to add that every time i save the settings in the Avast pop up window it goes to a blank web page with the address
“chrome://wrc/content/options.html”

I do NOT have chrome installed

Unfortunately if the scan that you have run covers files that can’t be scanned then they will be listed.

The path chrome://wrc/content/options.html isn’t directly related to google chrome, copy and paste the chrome://wrc/content/options.html into the firefox address bar and you will see what the current avast internet security (AOS) add-on are.

For me that path isn’t a blank page (see image extract of that page), but my current AOS settings - this window also allows you to change the AOS add-on settings.

Ok either way how to i get it to stop opening a new time every time i open Mozilla. I have selected/deselcted what i want/dont want and clicked save; even after refreshing the link a gave above and entering the setting there do not stop the problem

As I queried in my first reply, I feel that your clearing browsing history/cookies is the route of the problem as the AOS uses cookies for site settings.

Try retaining that information for a period of time and see if that resolves the opening of the AOS settings.

I use the firefox CookieMonster add-on to manage cookies and only some sites, like forum.avast.com and avast.com, regularly etc. are allowed to set cookies. The remainder are only allowed to set session cookies, and third party cookies are disallowed.

Yes, if i do NOT delete private data on closing Firefox the issue goes away

However this is not an option i want to take, nor should i have to install cookie managers or third party apps to allow avast to work “properly”

This issue has only started with the last program up date; within a week i presume; surely this means that the “fault” lies with Avst; thus should be updated instead of getting their paid users to use tweaks? Is avast tech support aware of this issue, is it occurring to other users?

Private data has multiple settings and you can also choose what is removed when you clear private data.

Avast can’t possibly cater for all user settings, it has to retain information that you may make on the settings and or sites you visit with your browser and that is obviously how it does it.

I’m giving you options, if you choose not to use them that is your choice.

Ok, could you tell me how to do this in Mozzila. I tried it myself but can not seem to manage it. I also use C Cleaner so if you know how to get these both correctly to deal with this issue that would be great. Thanks

What/where did you try to change the settings ?

Most will be in the firefox > Options > Privacy - see image of my settings. I use the ‘Use custom settings for history’ from the drop down list. Never accept third party cookies - you can make Exceptions for cookies, e.g. for sites that you visit regularly and trust. That way they won’t be cleared when you close firefox.

Using CCleaner is fine, but in the Applications tab go to firefox and uncheck the Cookies option as that would override any firefox Privacy settings.

I use CookieMonster add-on for firefox to manage cookies, allowed, blocked, 3rd party not accepted, others are only allowed as session cookies. Whilst that takes care of the cookies, etc. it isn’t absolutely necessary, I just find it is more flexible with greater control than firefox options.
