Avast itself has popups when trying to purchase optimization

Whenever I go to purchase Avast Cleanup ($23.88 for one year) through the Avast program, the window freezes up and a popup (in the picture, a PastaLeads ads) and ad hyperlinks (note the word Avast is highlighted and double underlined) appear.
I find it a bit ironic that ads from potential virus/malware is popping up within the anti virus itself. I did do system scans, and yet the ads still persisted. Is there any way to fix this? (on a side note, the same ads will appear when using the Steam gaming platform, where ads hijack the internal browser and the only way I can get rid of it is by closing the application. Sometimes, an audio file will repeatedly and endlessly prompt for me to get anti virus definitions interrupting whatever game I was playing if I had the in game browser on).

EDIT: It might be malware instead of a virus? Does avast not have a malware detection/removal feature? is malwarebytes a good program to use?
