I usually use the Pro paid version, but I can’t install this time on a new machine.

If any previous used AV is it removed according to vendors instructions using removal tool

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Pro Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

I purged the old Avast several times, but it still won’t install.

None of the links in the post have any effect - except the uninstall-utility . . . .

I guess I’ll just have to rely on Malwarebytes.

The computer works fine except that it won’t install any Avast software.

New machines usually come with a pre-installed AV.
Did you remove that before you tried to install Avast…!?
