Avast just started blocking GMail (Resolved)

Keeps saying that mail.google.com is infected with ExUScam-B [Scam]
I really need to use email and very much doubt that the google site itself is infected.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Regards, Will.

I reported this to Avast before I posted and now the problem seems to be resolved.
Maybe by Avast in which case well done!
Or maybe it was a Google problem in which case well done to them!
Regards, Will.

I was wrong. It’s back again. :frowning:

I use Gmail and am not having this problem. Do you have a second Gmail account? If so try using that and see if the same error happens.

Thanks for the reply.
I don’t have a second GMail account so unfortunately can’t try that.
The problem started with continued Avast popups each time GMail tried to connect (every 20 seconds or so) and has now died down to a popup each time I try to use it.
If it continues I’ll try whitelisting it but hopefully Avast can find the problem and deal with it.
Cheers, Will.

A screenshot of the avast alert could help.
When you get the alert select the Details option, that gives more ‘detailed’ information which could help in investigating.

I have a gmail account, but I visit that on my browser, I don’t download using my email client.

Here you go, and thanks for your help!

Presumably If you just visit gmail using MS Edge to view your email this isn’t an issue, but only when your browser tries to sync ?

Have you set MS Edge to regularly sync with your Gmail ?

I don’t have MS Edge installed, so I’m unfamiliar with its sync function.

You can also use the - Reporting a Possible False Positive File or Website - https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php.
You should get a response in a day or two.

Give as much info as you can and I would suggest giving the link to this topic - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=324619.0 - as it contains a lot of info and images.

Thanks, and I’ll do that.
I only started using Edge a month ago after using Chrome for years, and just tried firing up Chrome and using Gmail and there’s no issues there.
From the looks of it then Gmail doesn’t need any browser synch settings since it synchs itself whenever a new email arrives or when it’s trying to connect after being blocked (which is the extremely annoying problem I had yesterday at first).
The problem on Edge has reduced in frequency and now only manifests itself when I delete an email, whether I’ve read it or not.
I can open and read and then close any email without a problem so it’s Edge specific and only that action that triggers the alert now.
This should be enough info for Avast to try and get to the root cause, but since it’s only me having this problem then it seems like it’s specific to me for some reason.
Anyway, will send the report now and thanks again!
Cheers, Will.

Hi Will, I suspect there’s a scam email in your Inbox. MS Edge has loaded part of the email and Avast Web Shield is blocking this content.

Can you please try following the steps below?

  1. Temporarily disable Avast Shields (right-click the tray icon and select - Avast shields control - Disable for 10 minutes).
  2. Reload your Gmail inbox in MS Edge
  3. Search your inbox for “stavebni-poptavka.cz”
  4. If you find an email with this URL, delete it
  5. Enable Avast shields via the tray icon

Thanks for the response.

@ prokopes
Success!
I saw an email about construction that had been flagged as suspicious by Avast yesterday and deleted it since although there’s a ton of construction going on around where I live then none of it concerns my block.
I didn’t “Delete forever” though, so it was still in my bin.
Now it’s gone then everything looks fine so děkuju moc!
Well dug out.
Thanks again and I’ll mark this as resolved if I can work out how to do that.
Cheers, Will.

Well you managed that just fine.
