Every so often, Avast! will give me a message saying
“Malicious URL BLOCKED avast! network shield has blocked a harmful site”
The “malicious url” is like a bazillion characters long and made up of random letters, and under “process:” in the window is usually a file under c:\users\owener\appdata\local
The thing is, this message appears even when i’m not on the internet, and would happen with my old antivirus as well. When i had the old antivirus (symantec), it would list an ip adress rather than a url, which i would block, but a few minutes later i’d get the same message just from a slightly different ip. Is there any way to make this url stop “attacking” my computer for good?
So thats in the temp
download free ccleaner
www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Install and run it.
allow it to clean all temp files.
once cleaned reboot and report back on the status.
if not solved we have our maware expert essexboy with his tools to help u.
@UKilledKenny26,
I don’t know if this will completely solve your problem, but it is worth anyway.
Since you say that this was happening with your previous antivirus too, have you uninstalled it (and rebooted)? After uninstalling your old antivirus, you should run the respective specific removal utility. The removal utility would find remnants and this would reduce potential conflicts. A partial list of removal utilities is located at http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/. Look for the specific tool you used to have, read the info and follow the instructions to run the adequate removal utility.
Whether it would solve the problem or not, I don’t know, but removing remnants of older security tools is always recommended.
Please report back.
I’m going to try both of your suggestions and post later on tonight if they solved the issue. thanks
to me it looks as you have something in there that wants to phone home…
if i was you i would let Essexboy have a look inside…
follow the guide here and attach all logs
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
so far everything seems to be fine now…if i get the message again i’ll have to let essexboy know
turns out I am still having the same problem.
How can I get a hold of essexboy?
go to the virus and worms section
start new topic and follow the guide http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 as already posted above
Well, for other unrelated reasons i ended up having to reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows…so that actually ended up solving the problem. Thanks for all of your help though!
What makes you think the reasons where unrelated ???
