By default, the Firefox sessionstore files are excluded from scanning on writes.
Ok I made an account just for this. I installed a different speed dial app to open when I open a new tab. However, when typing into the main hppt: search bar it was still Yahoo, so if you right click on the toolbar (where depends on your computer)> customize> insert search bar> click icon in small search bar> scroll down to google> right click to remove small search bar. This will make the main hppt: search bar google as well.
Hope that makes sense, but I don’t know how to take screen shots on my computer.
Is there a clear solution to this yet? I’ve read all the post here but doesn’t look like there is a definite solution. I’m hesitant to try one of the suggested solutions since I’m not an expert in these stuff and I don’t want to mess it even more. Been looking all over the internet for solutions and ended up here thinking that there must be a solution in Avasts forum but so far I’m disappointed.
Yes, there is.
Don’t use the browser cleanup tool.
If the tool tells you to choose Yahoo or Bing, don’t use the tool. Simply close it.
It was supposed to be fixed. I haven’t run into the forced Yahoo change lately.
Hello all,
I too had this problem and yes I have solved it.
on google go to settings and on the section where it says “on Start up” choose “open new tab page” this sets it back to only opening to google page.
you can choose the third option in the list and put in the url you want it to open to.
it has worked for me and stopped it reverting back to yahoo

Unfortunately, that isn’t solving it but correcting what should never have happened in the first place. :o
This just started happening to me lately. I have been searching for a solution for a week, and finally found the cause was in my Avast.
Reading earlier posts here, I went to Avast 2015: Changing, adding, or removing individual program components and features in setup configuration of Avast Antivirus at http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB96#artTitle There I read…
First access the Avast Setup Wizard via your Contol Panel. If you do not know how to do this, please read the following article:Accessing the Avast Setup Wizard via your Windows Control Panel</blockquote>
Which took me to a dead link. I did figure it out in Windows Programs tho.
I removed Browser Cleanup but when I rebooted my computer and open Firefox, the Yahoo search problem is still there.
Now what…??

Go to your browser settings and change the default search provider manually.
Removing the Browser Cleanup tool only prevents it from doing it again. It doesn’t restore what’s already happened.
I remove Yahoo from my Search Engines in Firefox after every reboot. This is how I know I know that it still happens ever after removing Browser Cleanup tool from Avast.

The idea isn’t to remove anything but simply restore your favorite Search Engine as the default.
I do that after every boot. How do I stop Avast from redirecting my Firefox search box yahoo?

If you’ve removed the Browser Cleanup Tool, it isn’t Avast that’s doing the redirecting.
Maybe you have something else going on with your system ???
Try following the directions outlined at:

Avast was shown to be changing it by us.yhs4.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?type=avastbcl&hspart=avast&hsimp=yhs-001&p=
wigging me out too, but I found a partial solution, easy to follow… I ggogled it. Open a google window, drag the little google icon to the home icon, and it will reset your homepage to Google. just click yes. doesn’t fix the little browser bar tho, but easy to click the home button at least.
still waiting for the real fix… WHY did I click that stupid update clean button??
I think I’ve found the solution (thanks to another forum, not my solution!):
“On my computer it looked like it was a problem made by a lavasoft ad-aware update. I removed 2 files: dsengine.cfg en dsengine.js. from the program files (x86) folder/Mozilla Firefox (root and folder defaults) , put the preferences like homepage back to my preferences and bing was gone en didn’t return. Regards, Peter” (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1194334, 5th(-ish) post from the top)
It worked for me, so thanks to Peter! Wanted to share that here, too.
Much love!
Sorry but posting in a three year old thread makes no sense whatsoever.
