We’ve been using EDocPrinter PDFPro to create pdfs for several years. It is made by ITEKSOFT. We have not updated it recently.
Two days ago, the program stopped working on three different computers. It turns out that Avast has put one of its .exe files in the virus chest: “epdfact.exe”. It calls it “Susp” and lists “Win32:Evo-Gen” is the suspected virus (I think).
The ITEKSOFT people say they no of no malware infection, and Avast says the file was last changed in 2008. So I figured I’d take a chance and “extract” the file back to it’s original location. But each time I do it it is removed again immediately.
Does anyone know why this happened and how to fix it?
send to virus@avast.com in a password protected zip file
mail subject: False Positive / undetected sample (select subject according to your case)
zip password: infected
Thanks. I have uploaded the file to the “lab”, but what do I do now? Just wait? If I wanted to be brave (or foolhardy), is there simply a way to make Avast ignore that file? It seems unlikely to be infected if it hasn’t changed in 5 years, during which time it was used multiple times a day.
Acoustilog you can add/move “epdfact.exe” to Avast exclusions list. How to move/add file to exclusions from Avast chest? Open Avast-Virus Chest-epdfact.exe-Right mouse click-Restore an add to exclusion. PS:You can update Avast virusdatabase and check if Avast still detects epdfact.exe as Susp-Win32:Evo-Gen.
