Avast keeps stopping

What’s going on with Avast today? Can’t access many websites unless I disable web shield and twice now I noticed there’s now a red ‘X’ over the Avast icon in the taskbar, and when I hover the mouse of it, it says “you are not protected!” So, twice now I have clicked “Resolve all” and it seems to go back to running and it shows “You are protected”, only to have the red X appear all over again. It keeps stopping by itself.

I am using Windows Vista and Avast version 2015.10.0.2208. This just started today.

Perform a clean installation of version 2015.10.0.2209 and lets us know if the problem is solved or not.

I also want to add that I suddenly wasn’t able to go to several websites (like eBay) while the web shield was on, but when I disabled it, I was able to access all the sites.

I had the same issue but uninstalling and reinstalling seems to have fixed it, It may have had to do with the recent update.

see updated message below…

Eddy, according to the download page for the free version, there is no version 2015.10.0.2209 – it still shows 2208 as the latest version which I have now. I used the uninstall utility to remove Avast from my PC but I will not be re-downloading until they get this sorted.

Same here. It woreked fine yesterday, but today, it’s the second time it just stopped with red cross in the tray icon in the last 1 hour. Looks like some update is messing it up…

Well I’m glad I’m not the only one.

Yes mine is the same… All my shields are turning themselves off… I them turn them on and the same thing happens every 10 minetes or so…Just started today as before that Avasti Internet Security ran perfect…

I had the same problem. Avast turning off by itself. This happened last year or so. I uninstalled it via add/remove and used avast uninstall utility and reinstalled avast free= problem solved.

Confirmed. Same here with the latest beta.

My AVAST also began turning it’s self off every few minutes or so today. I will try to uninstall and reinstall. My fear is I will get it to uninstall half way and then get stuck. There is no way I can afford to pay you to help fix this issue. Wish me luck! :-\

AVAST Version 2015.10.0.2208

I even called the “support” number. They seemed to think my PC either had a browser hijacker or a kernel error. Nope I don’t think so!

Oh this is stupid. 5th time it turned itself off this morning and it’s not even noon yet.

After a reboot, it works for me. Fingers crossed.

Me too, unfortunately.
This is my environment: OS Win 8.1 (updated), Avast Free Antivirus 2015.10.0.2208.
Something more: the version and number of the virus definitions result unknown.

Thank you for your attention.
Cheers from Italy (and sorry for my english!).

Both computers at home using Avast are having the exact issue for me, too. Turning off several times. Both are up-to-date w/ the latest version (2015.10.0.2208).

Please try to update to the latest virus definitions (released a while ago)…

So far so good, it seems the problem is solved.

Working regularly by an hour. It all seems ok.
