I have an ASUS K55VD laptop running Windows 10 Home (64bit), (Win10 upgrade from Win8.1 on 29 July 2015). I have a daily custom scan set up for 01:00 on Sunday and Wednesday mornings; ‘Do not start the scan if running on batteries’, ‘Pause the scan if batteries mode begins’ and ‘Wake up the system to start the scan (if in sleep mode)’ are all selcted. (I’ve had the scheduled scan set up like this for nearly 2 years).
Since the scheduled scan on Wednesday 26 August 2015 @ 01:00, I have had the following problem after every scheduled scan:
After a scheduled scan, the PC will naturally sleep due to inactivity, then wake up again within 1 minute. If I manually put the laptop to sleep, then it will wake again within 1 minute. The only way I’ve found to cure the problem is to shut down, and re-boot the laptop.
From a Command Prompt, powercfg -lastwake gives me the following:
Wake History Count - 1
Wake History (0)
Wake Source Count - 1
Wake Source (0)
Type: Wake Timer
Owner: [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume4\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastSvc.exe (avast! Antivirus)
I’ve also had this issue. There is no way for my PC to sleep more than a minute or so after Avast has run a scan. I’ve noticed that if I kill the Avast Service that it will let my PC sleep normally, which is obviously no good. It’s to the point where I’m considering switching to another AV client until this issue is resolved.
I echo that this has also started happening to me since upgrading to Win 10. Wakes from sleep - every ~4 mins according to Power Troubleshooter in Event Viewer.
Acer Aspire 5738-6969
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Avast Free 11.1.2241
I am having the same problem with my computer sleeping and waking up to this:
C:\WINDOWS\system32>powercfg/lastwake
Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 1
Wake Source [0]
Type: Wake Timer
Owner: [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume2\New folder\AvastSvc.exe (avast! Antivirus)
It’s like my worst nightmare, of which I am unable to wake. Please baby Jesus.
When I first reported this problem on 06 September 2015, my OS version was the Win10 Home upgrade from Win8.1 and Avast Free version 10.3.2225.
I am now using the latest (and fully updated) Win10 Home 1511 and the latest version 11.1.2245 of Avast Free. And the problem still persists.
I have also tried doing a clean install of Avast (Using the correct Uninstall/Install procedures found on this Forum).
I’ve been working with Avast on this issue since 12/1. Their support is horrendous. They’ve had me jumping through hoops trying to clean install Avast and telling me windows is corrupt. Obviously everyone having this issue has corrupt windows installs. Yes. Obviously.
I got to level 2 support. They told me they couldn’t reproduce it on their reference machines. After they told me they couldn’t reproduce, I gave them more detailed steps and they said they’d send it over to the development team, but didn’t tell me if they were able to reproduce it.
This has been happening to me lately as well. Not sure, but it might be since the latest major update. I run a scheduled scan on Saturday nights. I shut down all unneeded programs, put the computer to sleep and the scan is supposed to wake the computer and run at 3:00am. It runs properly, but then it gets stuck in a 4 min sleep/wake loop until I wake in the morning and snap it out of it.
The system has returned from a low power state.

Wake Source: Timer - AvastSvc.exe
Same thing is happening for me, and has been happening for awhile now. I thought it was fixed after a repair/reinstallation, but it has started waking up a minute or two after being put to sleep. Avast needs to get this fixed!
System event logs indicate the following: “Wake Source: Timer - AvastSvc.exe” ; each time I put the pc to sleep it wakes up with this in the event log.
