Unless I get a quick, easy, explaination, and way to fix the problem, I'm afraid I'll have to uninstall her, and simply share my misfortune with your product, with about a thousand of my friends!

Have you checked your firewall whatever one you use? Is avast allowed through this firewall? Avast does not block access to the internet. BUT, if avast is not allowed through the firewall, then your access which goes through avast (or most any other anti-virus program) will be blocked. But, it is not avast doing the blocking … it’s the firewall blocking access.
